Missed the turn...
As I admitted in my previous post on running blind, I am quite the 路痴 (road idiot), and lose my way pretty easily. And I did just that this last week - got off the wrong exit on the freeway on my way home and got lost in a different part of town. To make matters worse, we were in a hurry for a dinner appointment.
My aunts who were in the car with me chided me, "How can you forget the way back to the place you called home for more than 10 years??!" Ordinarily I would have panicked and called my other family members for help but I then I took a deep breath, grinned sheepishly and said, "Well... it happens. Let's just take it as a sight-seeing detour. We'll find our way back. Afterall, all roads lead to Rome!"
Battling the rising fear in my stomach, I tried to take stock of my bearings and recall how to get home from the part of town we were in. It was afterall some place we visited with regularity, except that I do not usually pay as much attention when someone else is at the wheel.
Thankfully, perhaps through a combination of luck and a some memory work, I managed to get us home successfully with the detour lasting only 20 minutes. However this little incident taught me a few things:
Needless to say, this little incident also became the latest running joke in the family on my hopeless sense of direction.

Pay attention, even if you are not the one at the wheel or the one leading. You never know when you might need to draw on your wealth of experiences.
Sometimes life does not go as planned. As the proverbial saying goes, "When life throws you lemons, make lemonade!" Relax and enjoy the ride!
It is important not to panic when the situation is not in your favour. Only by keeping calm will you be able to able to think and recall clearly.
Needless to say, this little incident also became the latest running joke in the family on my hopeless sense of direction.
